Frequently Asked Questions

Get answers to common questions about becoming a peer mentor.

How much time commitment is required?

We ask for a minimum commitment of 2-4 hours per week for at least 6 months. This includes direct mentoring time, participation in training sessions, and mentor community meetings. The exact time can be flexible based on your availability.

Do I need professional qualifications?

No professional qualifications are required. We value lived experience, empathy, and the desire to help others. Our comprehensive training program will provide you with the skills and knowledge needed to be an effective peer mentor.

What if I'm still working on my own healing?

Healing is a lifelong journey, and we don't expect mentors to have "completed" their healing. What's important is that you're in a stable place and have developed coping strategies. Many mentors find that helping others actually supports their own continued growth.

How are mentors matched with mentees?

We use a careful matching process that considers factors like shared experiences, cultural background, languages spoken, age, and availability. Our team works to ensure compatible matches that will benefit both mentor and mentee.

What support will I receive as a mentor?

You'll receive comprehensive initial training, ongoing supervision with our team, monthly mentor support groups, access to resources and continuing education, and a 24/7 support hotline for any urgent situations or concerns.

Is peer mentoring conducted online or in-person?

Most peer mentoring is conducted online through our secure platform, which includes video chat, messaging, and group forums. This allows for flexible scheduling and broader reach. Some in-person meetings or group events may be organized in certain locations.

What happens if a mentoring relationship isn't working?

Not every match will be perfect, and that's completely normal. We have processes in place for re-matching when needed. Our team provides support to help navigate any challenges, and we always prioritize the wellbeing of both mentors and mentees.
